Words for the Day
A cinematic devotional for the quiet moments.
Cross-platform devotional app — daily series with AI-narrated audio, AI-illustrated creatures, personal reflection journals, and three reading skins. Built on Expo and Cloudflare.
The app was built around a simple observation: the devotional tools that existed felt like utilities. PDFs dressed up as apps. Nothing that felt like the kind of book you carry everywhere — worn at the edges, full of your own notes in the margins.
Each series has a name and a creature. "The Psalms We Skip" runs seven days and confronts the prayers people usually flip past. "What the Birds Know" is quieter — short readings, breathing room, illustrations that feel earned. Every day carries narrated audio generated through a custom AI voice pipeline, an illustrated scene, and a journal prompt that actually leads somewhere.
AI runs deeper than content generation here. A smart recommendation layer surfaces the right series at the right moment based on reading history and emotional context. Three reading skins — dark for night, warm cream for morning, parchment for when it should feel old. Offline-first. Cross-platform from a single codebase. Cloudflare Workers handles the backend; D1 keeps it fast at the edge.
